Dawan (다완) refers to a tea bowl traditionally used in tea ceremonies and come in many different styles depending on the region/country you are in and also artists personal aesthetics. The dawan I create are typically uneven and undulating, I allow the bowl to move freely and become its own unique individual. Just as humans are their own individuals, I believe each clay body and vessel is its own as well. Each dawan is hand thrown off of a hump and trimmed with care to not disturb the natural movements of the bowl. Each one has its own individual listing and my hope is that one will resonate with you and will become your daily tea bowl.
*Every piece I make has what I call the “human touch” where I have intentionally left a small area where my thumb or fingers held the vessel while slipping or glazing the piece. These are intentional and not imperfections in the slipping or glazing process and they do not harm the use or longevity of your pieces. I hope it creates a sense of comfort and grounding in a world that has become so manufactured. It serves as a reminder that human touch and human interaction is important.
